Kinect Information

Kinect is the Xbox answer to Nintendo Wii- a revolutionary new gaming experience that brings Xbox entertainment to life with full-body play. Based around an add-on peripheral device for the Xbox 360 console, it allows users to play specific Kinect games without the use of controllers. Instead, games are controlled by arm, leg, feet, hands and full-body gestures, or even spoken commands. Kinect acts as a sort of camera for Xbox 360, equipped with a unique sensor that can capture all the movements in the room. Using invisible infrared light, as well as advanced motion sensing and a motorised tilt, Kinect can track 48 points of the body in real time for up to two players simultaneously.

The idea is that the experience is natural and intuitive, making it easy for anyone to join in and broadening the user audience beyond traditional gamers. It also contains a feature called videokinect, which works much like Skype, so you can video chat with friends either from their own Xbox Live portal or Windows Live Messenger.

Kinectis scheduled to be launched worldwide from November 4th, 2010, though no official price has yet been disclosed.

It is expected to be launched with plenty of new and exciting games to get you started. Some of the Kinect games being advertised and talked about are:

  • Kinectimals. A family game that takes you to a magical island where you can raise your own exotic, wild animal as a pet, teaching them commands and competing in contents with them, or just exploring the island together.
  • Kinect Sports. Similar to Wii Sports, with interactive games like soccer, ping pong, bowling, boxing, volleyball, etc.
  • Kinect Adventures. A game of obstacle courses that challenges you to jump, duck and dodge though roaring rapids, underwater laboratories, and more.
  • Kinect Joy Ride. A crazy racing game that takes you through three unique worlds, where you navigate obstacles, power slide through corners and fly off jumps.

  • Zumba. Ahigh-energy Latin dance workout set to lively music, giving you a fun, easy way to get involved in this latest fitness craze.

With all these games and more, Xbox Kinect is sure to be a hit with gaming fanatics and casual users alike. Many people are already queuing up to get their hands on the device, with pre-order sales dominating the top 10 sales lists in many online retailers.
